In the early 1990s, the first Bottoming Book taught tens of thousands of people that bottoming -- being a submissive, masochist, slave, ''boy'' or ''girl, '' or other BDSM recipient -- is as much an art as topping. Since then, the growing popularity of BDSM, and the blossoming of the Internet as a source of information and connection, have created a whole new universe of possibilities for players. Now, the completely updated revised New Bottoming Book gives even more insights and ideas about how to be a successful, popular bottom!

Janet W. Hardy is a writer and sex educator, and founder of Greenery Press. She has also been published as Catherine A. Liszt and Lady Green. She is the author or co-author of eleven books, and frequently collaborates with Dossie Easton
Nearly a decade ago, this book began teaching tens of thousands of people the joyous arts of BDSM bottoming - not just technique, but emotional support and ethical interaction. Since then, the growing popularity of BDSM, and the blossoming of the Internet as a source of information and connection, have created a whole new universe of possibilities for players. Now, the completely updated revised New Bottoming Book gives even more insights and ideas, updated for a new millennium, about how to be a successful, popular player!

Readers should be aware that BDSM, like all sexual activities, carries an inherent risk of physical and/or emotional injury. While we believe that following the guidelines set forth in this book will minimize that potential, the writers and publisher encourage you to be aware that you are taking some risk when you decide to engage in these activities, and to accept personal responsibility for that risk. In acting on the information in this book, you agree to accept that information as is and with all faults. Neither the authors, the publisher, nor anyone else associated with the creation or sale of this book is responsible for any damage sustained.
This is an unabashedly bottom-centrist book. In it we will tell you over and over again that bottoms are beautiful, bottoms are powerful, bottoms are alchemists who magically transform suffering into sex, humiliation into desire, screams of pain into moans of pleasure.
Janet started doing BDSM almost 20 years ago, exclusively as a heterosexual top. Today she identifies as a standard-issue Northern California bisexual polyamorous switch. She makes her living as a sexuality writer, educator and publisher. Under her remaining pen name Lady Green, Janet wrote the how-to manual The Sexually Dominant Woman: A Workbook for Nervous Beginners and several other books, has published numerous articles on S/M practice and philosophy, and has taught hundreds of women and men the basics of kinky play in lectures and workshops around the country.

Since then, the growing popularity of BDSM, and the blossoming of the Internet as a source of information and connection, have created a whole new universe of possibilities for players. Now, the completely updated revised New Bottoming Book and New Topping Book give even more insights and ideas, updated for a new millennium, about how to be a successful, popular player!
Two of my favorite books on the subject are THE NEW BOTTOMING BOOK and THE NEW TOPPING BOOK by Dossie Easton and Janet W. Hardy, who are among the best authors when it comes to sexual education. Although they provide lists of how-to books, they are not technical books themselves, meaning they will not teach you bondage knots or any other techniques that you should surely learn about before engaging in concrete practices requiring those skills. Instead, they offer a practical introduction to the psychology and ethics of BDSM play. The authors' approach to the topic comes from an honest and relatable place, as they are both very experienced players. They define BDSM not as an abnormality but as a component of sexuality in all humans and respectfully acknowledge the diversity in its expression. They are also aware and inclusive of the different sexual orientations and relationship forms players might have. The Bottoming/Topping books propose a deep understanding of the complexity of power play and suggest concrete practical advice on how to create a safe space for you and your partners to enjoy it fully. They argue that when it comes to sexuality, you as a consenting adult are responsible for taking care of yourself and others when engaging sexually. Plus, the books have a light and joyous tone even while handling difficult topics, and they include short erotic narratives of personal experiences which can be very inspiring. Regardless of whether you're just curious or an experienced player, I recommend adding these two to your library. Or, better yet: leave them on top of your partner's night table as an ice breaker.
